PROJECT SPECIAL CARE
PROJECT SPECIAL CARE was created in response to an unmet need for quality respite care in Northeast Florida. While many persons may be willing to care for special needs children outside of the classroom setting, they often do not have the skills, training, equipment and resources needed to provide peace of mind for concerned parents. In our program, care givers are "center-based" meaning that needed services and resources are co-located in a well equipped facility to benefit many individuals.

Training is provided to ensure that care givers know how to respond to and to interact with special needs individuals.
Our hours of operaton are extended to meet the needs of the working parent. The child is given the opportunity to interact
and build social skills. Government offices of Health and Human Services are close at hand within the same building.
Through training, education and community out reach, we can improve the lives of those with whom we come in contact. Parents benefit by having time to keep appointments, take care of personal business and renew the bonds within their family. Respite provides the gift of time to do the even the simplest things in life. Out of home respite care allows parents to get much needed undisturbed sleep.
Children are given the chance to interact with their peers through developmentally appropriate games, toys and learning activities.
Special needs childen often require specialized therapy for their care and maintenance. We provide on-site facilities and staff to deliver physician prescribed massage therapy, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy.

There is no need for the care giver to take the child to multiple sites for their therapy appointments. This helps to assure that delivery of care is consistent and reliable.
Physical impairments often means that specialized equipment is required for the child to overcome disabilities. We will be offering wheelchair and orthotic devie clinics to ensure that each child is continually and correctly matched and fitted with the equipment that they need.
